The ideal is to be made a consultation with a qualified professional. But as this is not always possible, should inquire what are the plants that should not be used because many of them can cause severe poisoning when ingested or allergic reactions if touched.
The most common poisonous plants in our gardens are the azaleas (Rododendron), me-nobody-can (Dieffenbachia amoena), arum (Zantedeschia aethiopica), Alamandas (Allamanda cathartica), crotons, broom, castor oil, virtually all plants of the genus Euphorbia (Crown-of-christ and parrot-bill), and many cacti, because of the milky latex that spew when they are cut, and this is a good indicator of toxicity.
Dogs especially puppies are very curious to put anything new in the garden, and can chew and swallow parts of these plants. In case of poisoning should keep the plant intake and seek immediate medical advice. Another tip for those who have dogs, is to avoid mixing castor bean meal and bone meal to make fertilizer. Bone meal attracts dogs and as the castor bean is toxic, it can cause poisoning in dogs.
For children it is best to educate them about the danger that plants can cause, and discourage them to prove leaves or fruits unknown.
Another problem concerning plants are those that have pointed leaves, as some species of bromeliads, agaves and cacti. These should be avoided for the risk of a child or adult with special needs, come to fall on them causing cuts and scratches on the skin or eyes.
We should also note the type of flooring used in driveways and other circulation areas in the garden. Tile shall be slip resistant, especially in wet areas such as pool decks. Sleepers widely used in gardens, though beautiful can become slippery on rainy days and should therefore be avoided.
An important factor that should not be forgotten is how the arrangement of plants near the entrance gate of the residence. Unfortunately, due to violence in cities and also in smaller cities, we should avoid large trees and shrubs at the entrance, where one can stay hidden and surprise the residents on arrival at his residence.
Watching these questions, we can design green areas safer, making our leisure time more calm and pleasant.
